Tasting: The second wine of Château Montrose presents remarkable sophistication with classic Saint-Estèphe character. The bouquet unfolds with ripe blackcurrants, dark cherries, and subtle cedar notes, complemented by hints of tobacco and graphite. The palate shows impressive depth and refinement, offering layers of black fruit, warm spice, and distinctive minerality characteristic of its terroir. Both Wine Advocate and Vinous praise its exceptional structure and remarkable precision.
Pairing: The wine's structure and depth make it an excellent match for premium red meats such as Miguel Vegara beef or Sashi Beef, particularly when served with wild Ceps mushrooms. For game birds, try it with Squab Pigeon or Guinea Fowl. The wine's robust character also pairs beautifully with Cinco Jotas Presa or Iberico Pork Cheeks (Carrillera). For cheese, serve alongside aged Fort Saint Antoine Comté or aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
Producer: La Dame de Montrose represents the elegant second wine of the legendary Château Montrose, a Second Growth estate dating to 1815. The château's remarkable position on a gravelly outcrop overlooking the Gironde estuary creates a unique microclimate. Under the ownership of Martin and Olivier Bouygues since 2006, the estate has seen massive investment in both the vineyard and cellar, including cutting-edge environmental initiatives making it one of Bordeaux's most sustainable producers.
Vintage: 2015 proved exceptional in Saint-Estèphe, marked by ideal conditions throughout the growing season. A warm, dry summer was followed by perfect harvest conditions, allowing for optimal ripeness. The vintage's warm days and cool nights helped preserve freshness while developing complex flavours. The resulting wines show particular depth and refinement, with excellent aging potential characteristic of this outstanding year.
