Tasting: A majestic Grand Cru showing the power and finesse of its terroir. The bouquet opens with intense red cherries, wild strawberries, and subtle notes of rose petal, developing complex aromas of forest floor and sweet spice. The palate displays impressive structure with silky tannins supporting layers of red fruits, earthy minerality, and hints of oriental spice.
Pairing: The wine's complexity and structure pairs wonderfully with Poulet de Bresse accompanied by wild Morels or Trompettes. For red meat, match with Limousin Veal or Sashi Beef, particularly when served with Autumn Truffle. The wine's refined power complements Guinea Fowl or heritage breed Squab Pigeon. For cheese, serve with perfectly aged Vacherin Mont d'Or or 36-month Fort Saint Antoine Comté.
Producer: Bouchard Père & Fils, founded in 1731, is one of Burgundy's most historic négociant-éleveurs. Their ownership of Le Corton represents one of their most prestigious holdings, with 3.45 hectares of perfectly situated vines on the famous Corton hill. In 1995, the house was acquired by Champagne's Henriot family, who initiated substantial investments in both vineyard and cellar practices. Their historic cellars beneath the Château de Beaune, some dating to the 15th century, provide perfect aging conditions for their impressive range of wines.
Vintage: 2012 stands as a classic vintage in Burgundy, despite early season challenges. A cool, wet spring reduced yields naturally, followed by a warm, dry summer that allowed for perfect ripening. September brought ideal harvest conditions, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration and balance. The lower yields produced wines with excellent structure and aging potential, particularly evident in the Grand Crus.
