Tasting: A sophisticated expression of Puglia's indigenous Verdeca grape, showing remarkable depth and character. The nose opens with intense notes of white stone fruit, Mediterranean herbs, and orange blossom. The palate displays impressive complexity with layers of ripe pear, almonds, and citrus zest, underpinned by a distinctive mineral backbone. Full-bodied yet supremely elegant, with a creamy texture balanced by fresh acidity and a long, saline finish that speaks of its Mediterranean terroir.
Pairing: This textured white wine pairs beautifully with Gambero Rosso, its mineral notes enhancing the sweet flesh of these prized red prawns. Exceptional with Chilean Sea Bass, where the wine's body matches the fish's rich character. For cheese lovers, try with aged Grana Padano DOP, or serve alongside Baby King Oyster mushrooms with White Truffle for a luxurious combination.
Producer: Masseria Li Veli, housed in a 19th-century estate, represents the Falvo family's commitment to reviving Puglia's native varieties. Part of their acclaimed Askos project, dedicated to preserving indigenous grapes, this Verdeca comes from old bush vines grown on traditional 'alberello' systems. The family's philosophy combines historical wisdom with modern winemaking techniques, creating wines that perfectly express Salento's unique terroir while pushing the boundaries of what's possible with native varieties.
Vintage: 2022 proved exceptional in Salento, with a mild spring followed by a warm, dry summer moderated by cooling sea breezes. These conditions, combined with well-timed rainfall, produced Verdeca of remarkable concentration while maintaining crucial freshness and aromatic intensity.
