Producer: Domaine des Brosses, established in 1875 and located 10 kilometres south of Sancerre, was modernized by the Girard family in 1973. Nicolas Girard, the current owner, has travelled extensively in search of the finest Sauvignon Blancs and vineyard techniques.

Applying this knowledge to Domaine des Brosses’ vineyards near Veaugues, he has optimized the six parcels of vines, benefiting from well-draining soils and southern exposure.

The vineyards produce wines with aromas of white flowers, pear, and apricots, along with a characteristic Sancerre acidity, aged on lees for added palate weight. Nicolas also produces an exceptional Quincy from sandy gravel soils near Brinay and a Menetou-Salon from ‘terres blanches’ clay soils near Humbligny and Morogues. Both wines are fermented at low temperatures to preserve aromatics and aged on lees for a creamy texture.

Favourable conditions generally characterised the 2022 vintage. Winter was relatively dry in the region, and despite some spring frosts in early April, humidity remained low, limiting damage.

Budburst occurred in mid-April, two weeks earlier than normal. May was also warmer and dryer compared to the previous 10-year average. In June, there were some heavy rainfalls that were offset by high temperatures in July, ensuring a mildew-free veraison. Conditions continued to be optimal until harvest, which started at the end of August.

Tasting: The wine shows a bright straw yellow in the glass, displaying intense aromas of apple, pear, and citrus, along with spices, pepper, and mentholated notes on the nose. On the palate, the fresh fruit aromas are balanced by a supple texture, resulting in a fresh and vibrant yet round wine with a long finish.
