Tasting: A captivating expression of Tuscan Ansonica that demonstrates both power and elegance. The nose opens with intense aromas of white peach, Mediterranean herbs, and citrus blossom, complemented by subtle notes of almonds and sea spray. The palate reveals remarkable complexity with layers of ripe pear, chamomile, and mineral notes, balanced by fresh acidity. A distinctive saline character emerges on the long finish, accompanied by subtle hints of dried herbs and white flowers.
Pairing: This textured white wine pairs beautifully with Alaskan Black Cod, its mineral notes enhancing the fish's buttery character. Exceptional with Gambero Rosso, where the wine's complexity complements the prawns' sweet flesh. For cheese, pair with Camembert de Normandie, or serve alongside Maitake mushrooms with White Truffle for an innovative combination.
Producer: Bibi Graetz, an artist-turned-winemaker, continues to push boundaries in Tuscan winemaking from his base at the historic Castello di Vincigliata overlooking Florence. His artistic sensibility influences his approach to winemaking, resulting in wines that challenge conventions while respecting tradition. The Scopeto Bianco represents his exploration of Ansonica's potential, sourced from old vines growing on the Tuscan coast where sea breezes and mineral-rich soils create perfect conditions for this indigenous variety.
Vintage: 2020 was an excellent vintage in Tuscany, characterised by a balanced growing season. Despite the warm summer, cooling maritime influences and well-timed rainfall preserved crucial acidity in the white varieties. These conditions produced wines with exceptional aromatic intensity and excellent structure.
