Tasting: A vibrant expression of Atlantic-influenced Albariño, displaying remarkable precision and freshness. The nose bursts with white peach, sea spray, and citrus blossom, leading to a crystalline palate of ripe stone fruits, lime zest, and wet stone minerality. Beautifully textured with a characteristic saline finish that speaks eloquently of its coastal origins. The wine's natural acidity provides excellent tension and length, while subtle notes of white flowers and fresh herbs add complexity.
Pairing: This refined Albariño is a sublime match for Ōtoro Bluefin Tuna, its citrus notes cutting through the fish's rich texture. Exceptional with Carabineros, where the wine's mineral character complements the deep sweetness of these premium red prawns. For cheese, pair with young Vacherin Mont d'Or, or serve alongside Camembert de Normandie.
Producer: Casa Rojo, under the innovative direction of José Luis Gómez, has revolutionised Spanish winemaking with their modern approach to traditional varieties. La Marimorena represents their commitment to expressing Galicia's unique maritime terroir. The grapes come from old vines grown on granite soils in the Val do Salnés sub-region, considered the spiritual home of Albariño. Their philosophy of minimal intervention allows the variety's natural characteristics to shine through.
Vintage: 2022 was an outstanding vintage in Rías Baixas, characterised by moderate temperatures and well-timed rainfall. A dry, sunny harvest period allowed for optimal ripening while maintaining the crucial Atlantic freshness. These conditions produced wines with excellent concentration and the variety's signature aromatic intensity.
