Tasting: A classic expression of Barolo displaying the characteristic power and elegance of Nebbiolo. The nose reveals traditional aromas of dried rose petals, tar, and red cherries, with subtle hints of leather and tobacco. The palate unfolds with layers of wild strawberry, dark cherry, and dried herbs, supported by firm yet refined tannins. Notes of truffle, cedar and sweet spice emerge on the lingering finish, while balanced acidity provides excellent structure and ageing potential.
Pairing: This traditional Barolo shows particularly well with Cinco Jotas Presa, its firm structure complementing the marbled richness of the Iberico pork. Excellent with Sashi Beef, where the wine's complexity enhances the meat's elegant marbling. For cheese, pair with aged Parmigiano Reggiano, or serve alongside wild Ceps with White Truffle for an authentic Piedmontese experience.
Producer: Riva Leone represents a collaboration between select growers in the Barolo region, working together to produce wines that honour the area's rich winemaking heritage. The project focuses on traditional vinification methods, including extended maceration and ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. This respect for tradition, combined with careful vineyard selection, ensures wines that authentically express the character of their terroir.
Vintage: The 2018 vintage in Barolo saw a late but excellent harvest after early season rains. A warm, dry autumn allowed extended hang time, resulting in perfectly ripened Nebbiolo with balanced tannins and acidity. The vintage is characterized by its elegance and aromatic complexity.
