Tasting: An elegant Italian Pinot Nero that captures the essence of its terroir with remarkable precision. The nose opens with delicate red cherries, wild strawberries and subtle floral notes of violet. The palate displays refined cranberry and raspberry flavours, underscored by hints of dried herbs, forest floor and a touch of white pepper. Medium-bodied with silky tannins, the wine shows excellent tension between fruit purity and savoury complexity.
Pairing: The wine's refined character makes it an excellent match for Poulet de Bresse, where its ethereal nature complements the bird's sublime texture. Also superb with Ōra King Salmon, the wine's acidity cutting through the fish's rich oils perfectly. For mushroom enthusiasts, pair with wild Girolles sautéed in butter, or enjoy alongside aged Truffle Pecorino for a harmonious combination.
Producer: The Conte Vistarino estate, led by Ottavia Giorgi di Vistarino, represents over 500 years of winemaking heritage in Oltrepò Pavese. They pioneered Pinot Nero cultivation in Italy, planting their first vines in 1850. Today, the estate continues to be at the forefront of premium Pinot Nero production, combining historical knowledge with modern winemaking techniques across their 200-hectare property. The Tavernetto represents their flagship expression from selected parcels of old vines.
Vintage: 2018 proved to be an outstanding vintage in Oltrepò Pavese, marked by a cool spring followed by a warm, dry summer. September brought ideal diurnal temperature variations, allowing for perfect ripening while maintaining crucial acidity. These conditions produced Pinot Nero with exceptional aromatic complexity and structure.
