The wine shows remarkable depth with fine-grained tannins and a subtle olive tapenade note on the prolonged finish.
Pairing: This opulent Syrah creates magical partnerships with premium meats, particularly Sashi Beef served rare, allowing the wine's structure to complement the meat's marbling. Producer: Dan Morgan Lee and his wife Donna established their winery in 1982, pioneering premium Syrah production in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Their G17 vineyard, named for the highway running alongside it, sits at 250 metres elevation where cool Pacific breezes create perfect conditions for slow grape ripening. Morgan's commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking has earned them recognition as one of California's premier Syrah producers.
Vintage: 2019 proved exceptional in Santa Lucia Highlands, with a cool spring followed by moderate summer temperatures. A longer than usual hanging time allowed for perfect phenolic ripeness while maintaining crucial acidity. September's mild conditions created ideal harvesting circumstances, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration and balance.
