These premium French sand carrots are cultivated in the mineral-rich sandy soils surrounding the Créances Basin in Normandy. Their distinctive sweetness, crisp texture, and bright orange hue make them a celebrated delicacy among chefs and discerning home cooks alike.
These exceptional carrots develop their characteristic sweetness and tender texture from growing in the unique sandy terroir of coastal Normandy. Free from stones and rich in marine minerals, this special growing environment creates carrots with remarkable flavour intensity and none of the woodiness found in ordinary varieties.
This is what to do with it: Enjoy these precious carrots simply steamed with a touch of butter to appreciate their natural sweetness, or roast them whole with honey and thyme. Their delicate flavour also shines in a classic French vichy carrot preparation or puréed into velvety soups.
Producer: Harvested by family farmers in the villages surrounding the Créances Basin who maintain traditional cultivation methods dating back generations, including hand-harvesting to preserve quality.
Preparation: For a simple yet delicious preparation, braise these carrots whole. Rinse, dry, and optionally peel them before searing in olive oil until golden. Add butter, then water to create a braising liquid. Cover with greaseproof paper and bake at 160°C for about 15 minutes until tender but still with a slight bite. The natural sweetness of these Normandy treasures shines in this straightforward cooking method.
