WILD TIGER PRAWNS 850g±
SKULL ISLAND WILD TIGER PRAWNS
Tiger prawns from Skull Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria are the biggest in Australia! Measuring up to 26cm in length and 100g in weight, these juicy bohemians of the underworld are truly king on the plate. Characteristic Tiger stripes, purple tails and size are quite a lot to behold.
Skull Island is in Australia's Northern Territory and it is part of the Sir Edward Pellew group of islands in King Ash Bay at the mouth of the McArthur River. The inshore protected waters provide the ideal habitat for the tiger prawns. Large expansive seagrass beds, strong tidal movement and ample food allow juvenile tiger prawns to grow to sizes selected for the Skull Island brand.
Certified 'sustainable' by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Skull Island Tigers are the world's first certified sustainable tropical prawn. They are only caught during August to November each year and caught during night time hours only to ensure minimal impact on by-catch. The remainder of the year is closed to ensure juvenile tiger prawns have ample time to reproduce and grow into adult prawns.
